Defending Constitutional Rights

Proponents of a constitutional convention are currently within six states of the 34 states they need to call a constitutional convention. Most experts agree that if a constitutional convention is called, the actions of the convention could not be limited in advance and delegates could consider any amendments they want to adopt. The constitutional rights and protections for all Americans would be up for grabs. The first and only constitutional convention occurred in 1789. The convention threw out the Articles of Confederation and wrote an entirely new constitution, which is our constitution today. The right to vote and other fundamental rights provided by the Constitution are under attack.

We defend constitutional rights.

  • We play a leading role in the national coalition to prevent the calling of a constitutional convention which would throw up for grabs and revision the individual rights and protections provided to all Americans by the Constitution. This includes constitutional protections for civil rights and liberties, freedom of speech and religion, voting and privacy rights, among others.
  • We defend the rule of law, an independent judiciary and the checks and balances provided in the Constitution against the constant attacks by President Trump.
  • We advocate legislation to protect and enhance the voting rights of all Americans, to protect the integrity of the vote, to prevent foreign interference in our elections and to ensure that fair and honest elections are held to choose our President and members of Congress.
