After One Year of the Mueller Investigation, Much Work Must Still Be Done

FRED WERTHEIMER’S WEEKLY NOTE | MAY 17, 2018freadshot

The national coalition of organizations committed to protecting the Mueller investigation will challenge and respond to Trump and his agents every step of the way.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and any role that President Trump and his associates may have played in that interference.

Vice President Pence, Trump “TV lawyer” Rudy Giuliani, and other Trump operatives are using this anniversary to argue that it’s time to shut down the investigation.

This baseless attempt to undermine the probe comes at a time when the Mueller investigation 1) has accomplished far more than similar investigations at this stage, and 2) has much more work to do.

In comparison, the so-called investigation by House Republicans into Benghazi and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lasted two and a half years. It ended with no indictments, except for the foreign attackers on our Embassy.

The Mueller investigation in one year has already produced indictments or guilty pleas from 19 individuals and three companies.

The President and his agents need to be asked how they expect the investigation to be completed when Trump refuses to appear before Mueller.

Trump’s refusal to testify raises questions that need to be answered: What is Trump hiding? What is he afraid of?

The efforts by Trump and his henchmen to damage the credibility of the Mueller investigation and bring it to a premature end are only going to heat up in the weeks and months ahead.

The national coalition of organizations committed to protecting the Mueller investigation that Democracy 21 is proud to be a member of will challenge and respond to Trump and his agents every step of the way.
