Former Federal Prosecutors & Former GOP Officials Defend Special Counsel Mueller In Pair Of Letters

Last week, 22 former federal prosecutors and 22 former Republican officials released letters supporting Special Counsel Robert Mueller and urging President Trump to allow Mueller to continue his investigation into Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 elections.

According to the Associated Press, “The 22 former U.S. attorneys, who served under presidents from Richard Nixon through Barack Obama, say it is ‘critical’ to the ‘interests of justice and public trust to ensure that those charged with conducting complex investigations are allowed to do their jobs free from interference or fear of reprisal.’”

In their letter, the former federal prosecutors wrote:

“We do not know where Mr. Mueller’s investigation may lead, but from our own experience, we know that Mr. Mueller must be permitted to continue the difficult job with which he has been charged. Seeking his removal would have severe repercussions for Americans’ sense of justice here at home and for our reputation for fairness around the world.”

In their open letter, the 22 former elected and appointed Republican officials wrote that they “reject recent efforts to discredit” Mueller. They continued:

“We urge the Administration, members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and the American public, to support the work of Special Counsel Mueller to its conclusion, whatever it may be.”
