McConnell Proposes Scam Legislation that Includes Fraudulent Group to Study “Integrity” of 2020 Election
This phony legislation makes it appear like McConnell is being responsive to Trump’s concerns while ensuring that his Republican Senators do not have to face a separate vote on the $2,000 payment passed by the House that would enact the provision. In addition to the EAC “Advisory Group,” the legislation includes an increase of the relief payment to $2,000 and repeal of Section 230 of the Federal Communications Act, without any congressional consideration of the implications of a complete repeal.
The EAC “Advisory Group” proposed by McConnell’s legislation is a scam, as it would consist of 9 Republicans and 9 Democrats, with McConnell appointing all of the Republicans.
This is the formula that has been used by Senator McConnell to destroy the Federal Election Commission as a functioning agency by controlling the three Republican appointees to the six-member enforcement agency. Those appointees have consistently opposed, misinterpreted, and undermined the campaign finance laws and blocked their enforcement.
If McConnell’s new “Advisory Committee” were ever created, the Republicans on it could be expected to issue their own report that would discredit the rules used in 2020 to ensure voters could vote safely and securely, and would also discredit the essential voting rights reforms contained in H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 that are adamantly opposed by Senator McConnell.
Any such report by the Republicans on the Advisory Committee on the “integrity and administration” of the 2020 election would no doubt be used by Trump to attempt to justify his blatantly false claims that he won the presidential election and to attack the legitimacy of the Biden presidency.
The McConnell scam should be treated for what it is – an illusion that McConnell is responding to Trump’s desires, while he protects his Senate Republican colleagues from having to vote up-or-down on the $2,000 payment and he prevents the $2,000 payment from being enacted.
This kind of political deception creates deep public cynicism and advances the polarization and divisiveness in Washington that has paralyzed the Congress.
