Watchdogs Urge OGE Not To Grant Certificate of Divestiture to Scaramucci

In a letter sent today to Dave Apol, the Acting Director of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE), Democracy 21 joined an effort led by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) to urge OGE not to grant White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci a certificate of divestiture for the sale of his interest in the hedge fund firm SkyBridge Capital.

“If granted, a certificate of divestiture would allow Mr. Scaramucci to defer the capital gains tax that would normally result from the sale of his interest in SkyBridge,” the letter stated. “Granting a certificate of divestiture to Mr. Scaramucci for SkyBridge would violate applicable laws and regulations and result in a significant abuse of the legal authority under which certificates of divestiture are granted.”
