NY Times: Meet the Megadonors Who Have Poured $1.2 Billion Into the Midterms

The New York Times article published today details $1.2 billion from 20 donors that are being poured into the 2026 elections.

It provides a classic example of just how corrupt, corrosive, undemocratic and un-American our political system has become.

Our politics today make the Robber Baron era of the 1890s look like child’s play.

These contributions are being given to Super PACs and so-called nonprofit “dark money” groups on the absurd pretense that these huge contributions have no ability to have corrupting influence on the candidates benefitting from the money. And as the saying goes, if you believe that, I have a Brooklyn Bridge available to sell to you for a very good price.

These huge contributions were legalized by the combination of the Supreme Court majority’s decision in Citizens United in January 2010, followed two months later by the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit in SpeechNow that was based explicitly on the Citizens United ruling.

The D.C Court of Appeals found that since the Supreme Court in Citizens United held that independent expenditures by corporations did not corrupt, then contributions to groups making independent expenditures could not corrupt.

The Supreme Court and D.C Circuit Court were dead wrong.

As a result we have today the most corrupt campaign finance and political system in American history.
